Dear EMSRA Community,

We are pleased with the growth of our association to date, but we still have a long way to go for our membership base to be truly representative and robust enough to take on the 4099 Erin Mills Plaza redevelopment process. Take a look at the following updates and learn how you can get involved. Your participation is critical to develop a strong and unified Erin Mills South Community.
Meeting with Acting Mayor and City Councillor Matt Mahoney (Ward 8)

On May 22nd, members of the EMSRA executive met with our local City Councillor and Acting Mayor of Mississauga to discuss the proposed redevelopment of the 4099 Erin Mills Plaza. We also discussed strategies on how EMSRA can best engage with the process moving forward. We are committed to working closely and collaborating with Councillor Mahoney and learning from other Residents Associations on best practices.

ESMRA Directors Opportunity

There is currently a vacancy for the position of Treasurer on the EMSRA Directors. If you have any experience or interest in finances and would like to play a leadership role on the EMSRA Board, please contact us to learn more about the role and/or to express your interest in joining. Please reach out to Dylan Short president@emsra.ca.
Mayoral Race:

The Mississauga Mayoral race is fully underway. EMSRA will not endorse any specific candidate and will remain non-partisan. We do encourage all members to make an informed vote. Remember that local elections tend to have the greatest impact on your day-to-day activities as a citizen of Mississauga. Please attend debates, reach out to the candidates, read their websites/literature or call them. It is very important to ask candidates what their position is on the proposed 4099 Erin Mills Parkway redevelopment. You may consider asking questions like the ones below:

1) How will you propose to build more housing to address the current housing crisis in a way that is sustainable and can add value for the surrounding community?

2) The proposed redevelopment of 4099 Erin Mills Parkway has a number of negative implications on the community including, but not limited to, traffic congestion, reducing retail space, reducing community/public space etc. What policy will you propose to ensure that the redevelopment of 4099 Erin Mills Parkway, and others like it, will have limited negative impacts on the community?
New Lawn Signs: Pick yours up today!

EMSRA has updated lawn signs available for anyone who would like one. We also have two large signs (3x4 feet) and would like to place them in high traffic or high visibility areas. If you are interested in displaying a small or large sign on your property, please reach out to our Membership Director Lindsey Biro membership@emsra.ca to arrange pick up.
Communications Committee:

We have established a small, but talented Communications committee and are working on a new EMSRA brand guideline and on ways to improve our communications on various platforms. We still need more help. Please reach out to our Communications Director, Terry Chemij if you would like to volunteer your time and talent to our communication efforts: Communications@emsra.ca
Please consider joining our NEW Facebook Page to stay up to date and engage on all things EMSRA related and to engage in two way community conversations: https://www.facebook.com/EMSRAmississauga?mibextid=ZbWKwL
Engaging with Indigenous Communities:

EMSRA is in contact with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We have asked historians within that Nation to assist us in understanding the history of the peoples who lived near Sawmill Creek, Mullet Creek, and the Credit, during the centuries pre-settlers and pre-sawmills. Please advise if you can assist us with any information about the Indigenous history of this place that we now call Erin Mills South. Our EMSRA neighbourhoods are located in the lands and waterways of Treaty 14 (Head of the Lake Purchase 1806), Treaty 22 (1820 respecting Area F), and Treaty 23 (1820). A map of lands and waterways governed by Treaties 14, 22, and 23 is attached below. The northern boundary of this Treaty 14 map is Base Line Road, now known as Eglinton Ave.
Thank you for your participation thus far, and if you have any questions, comments or feedback for us please do not hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,

April 2024
Hello neighbours!

Thank you once again to all of the EMSRA members who attended or voted in advance of our inaugural Annual General Meeting on February 10th. The Directors are now in place and we are now working on the operational structure of our organization and we want to invite the broader community to get involved.

There are 3000 eligible households within the EMSRA boundaries, so we have much more potential to increase our membership base. The more members we have, the better represented and better financed our Residents Association will be. Please consider joining if you haven't done so already here.

Looking for volunteers with a passion or interest in communications, event planning and fundraising. Please reach out to communications@emsra.ca or membership@emsra.ca if you would like to learn more or volunteer.

News March 2024
Dear EMSRA Members

On behalf of the board of directors of Erin Mills South Residents Association:
We are writing to extend our appreciation to those who voted prior to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and to those who attended and voted in person. Your presence and engagement were instrumental in making the event a success, and we are truly grateful for your commitment to our community.
The AGM was filled with a lot of positive conversation and questions. One of our primary goals is to strengthen our residents' association by expanding our membership base. We firmly believe that a robust and diverse membership is essential for effectively representing the interests of our community and implementing meaningful initiatives that benefit us all. By joining our association, you gain opportunities for engagement and also play a vital role in shaping the future of our community.
It is important to highlight that sustaining our association and undertaking various projects require financial resources. Membership dues and contributions serve as vital sources of funding that enable us to address any emerging issues effectively, support advocacy campaigns, organize events, and advocate for neighbourhood improvements. Our initial focus will be to challenge the redevelopment proposed by Queenscorp (Erin Mills) Inc., for 4099 Erin Mills Parkway - Iqbal Plaza and funds will help us prepare for any potential OLT proceedings. This includes hiring legal counsel to support the RA. Without adequate financial support, we would be limited in our ability to fulfill our mission and serve the best interests of our community.
In the coming days, the new Board of Directors will be meeting to assign roles and develop a communications plan to help drive awareness. EMSRA has started a dialogue with Councillor Matt Mahoney and we will look to meet with him in the coming weeks.
If you have any questions or require further information about membership benefits or how your contributions will be utilized, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at info@emsra.ca or through our website at https://www.emsra.ca/contact. We are more than happy to provide clarification and assistance.
Thank you once again for your commitment to our community. Together, we can accomplish great things and create a neighbourhood that we can all be proud of.
Sincerely,
Dylan, Lindsey, Terry, Dianna, David
