Why an Erin Mills South Residents Association?
Mission Statement:

Our mission is to organize, engage, represent and advocate for our interests and concerns to ensure our community remains a vibrant and liveable neighbourhood for all. We are dedicated to representing the collective voice of our residents so that our community is empowered and can shape its future.

Initial Focus:

Our initial focus will be to challenge the redevelopment proposed by Queenscorp (Erin Mills) Inc., for 4099 Erin Mills Parkway - Iqbal Plaza, in file OZ/OPA 22-25 W8. We have served Notice on the City of Mississauga that we wish an opportunity to be heard.

A Unified Community, A Stronger Tomorrow:

Provides a formal structure to shape the future of our Erin Mills South neighbourhoods.

Now is the Time to Unite:

Together we can plan effectively and be prepared for any challenges that lie ahead.
Empowering Our Community:

Membership in the Residents Association empowers residents to actively shape our community's future. By contributing your time, talents, and resources, you play a pivotal role in making Erin Mills South an even more desirable place to live. Join us to build a stronger, more vibrant neighbourhood for everyone.

Call to Action:

1) Join Us Today:

Our strength lies in our numbers. The more members we have, the stronger our collective voice becomes. Now that we have reached a critical mass of sign-ups we convened a founding Annual General Meeting on February 10, 2024 to elect our executive board members and develop an action plan for the way forward.
2) Contribute Your Time, Talents, and Resources:

Volunteers are essential to establishing and supporting our work. Donations are needed to kickstart communication efforts and prepare for any potential OLT proceedings. Your active involvement will make a significant difference.

3) Spread the Word:
Help us spread the word about the newly formed Residents Association. Encourage your neighbours to join us in this important endeavour. Together, we can ensure a bright future for Erin Mills South.

Steps in Building Our Residents Association
1 / You Can Volunteer To Be A Member
We need to collect names, addresses, e-mails, and phone numbers of individuals who are willing to sign-up as members. Now that we have sufficient numbers, we are planning the next steps, collecting annual dues of $20 each, and have organized the first members meeting on February 10, 2024, where we voted for 2024-2025 Directors.
2 / The Boundaries for the New Residents Association
Our primary focus in establishing this Residents Association is political action respecting the re-development of 4099 Erin Mills Parkway. There is strength in numbers. Ultimately, the decision regarding the plaza will be substantially political in nature. Politicians’ first priority is re-election which means attracting as many votes as absolutely possible. We should strive to become a significant voting block that can influence the actions of our elected representatives. Consequently, it would be in our best interest to have as many area residents as members in one incorporated entity which would act as the representative for all the common interests of the members. If, for practical reasons, and to focus activities more closely to certain neighbourhoods it would certainly be possible to establish chapters of the organization with representatives from each chapter in the overall management group. From a funding point of view, a relatively small membership fee from this large group would be sufficient to engage professionals to assist the group in their quest.
Our boundaries therefore need to be large enough to encompass the neighbourhoods of Erin Mills Soith most affected by the QUEENSCORP development application. Here are the boundaries of the Erin Mills South Residents Association.
3 / Leadership & Involvement
The Association now has a permanent Board of Directors that will meet about once a month, and run the Annual General Meetings (AGMs). There will also be other member meetings. There may be some Board activity in between monthly meetings to deal with the RA’s interests and concerns.
Enthusiastic and community- loving residents will be needed for Committees to deal with very specific activities. Committee work is usually short term with narrowly defined work to be done.
Members are expected to attend the AGM, vote on the Board of Directors, vote on Association policies and priorities, and be active participants in EMSRA-wide activities.
Who Are the Organizers?

A few members of the 4099 Erin Mills Parkway Redevelopment Opposition Group, sometimes known as the 4099 Facebook Opposition Group, started the work. This small team of dedicated neighbours met with representatives of MIRANET (Mississauga Resident Associations Network) to get some ideas on how to start a Residents Association. Some members of the 4099 Erin Mills Focus Group offered their help in moving this Erin Mills South Residents Association from concept to reality. We are now incorporated as a Canada Not-for-profit Corporation, number 1538119-3, under the name "Erin Mills South Residents Association". As of February 10, 2024, we now have an elected Board of Directors who are continuing to carefully lay the groundwork for a sound organizational structure. This web site at EMSRA.CA is ready to sign up members. Please sign up here. We will set up a volunteer structure, committees, and develop policy over the next few months. Once you have signed up as a member, please take the extra step of offering your help.
